Today is/was New Year's Day, 2025. My partner Nuria is at work. Yes, Macy's is open today. But only for another three months. Our Macy's will be closing forever in March or April. Nuria is so happy in her job at Macy's. After Macy's closes, I hope Nuria, if she wants it, can find a job equally satisfying as her Macy's job.
I drove to Walmart and bought a box of firelogs and a few other items. Then I went by Macy's and chatted with Nuria for half a minute. She was busy, of course, and I didn't want to take much of her time.
I intend to burn one of the firelogs tonight. I'll put the log in the fireplace insert and I'll set fire to the log and leave the insert's doors open with its fans running, blowing warm air into the room. I like to turn off the living room lamps so that the room is reasonably dark, and then Nuria and I will sit on the sofa and watch the flames dancing on the burning firelog. It's almost hypnotic.
Anyway, I was back home with my Walmart purchases when I thought of my Jeep. In particular, I thought about the crankcase oil. I hadn't checked it in a long time. So I went to my garage, raised the Jeep's hood, and pulled the dipstick out of the crankcase. The oil level was one quart low. I drove to Autozone and bought a quart of 10W-30. I drove home, parked the Jeep in my garage, and poured the oil into the engine.
My immediate chores were complete. I returned to the house and began writing this blog post. I was tired from all the hard work I almost did.
I hope your New Year's Day was more interesting.

Greeting
I love your post -- it's funny and quick --
I do hope Nuria will find something new that she enjoys when Macy's closes. What an icon store we will lose. I think many stores will begin closing now that the holidays are done.
I hope you had a Happy New Year also -- it's wonderful to see/hear your blog voice --you sound cheerful and happy --- it's great to have the logs that burn so nicely to cast the ambience into the room for peace, comfort and quiet reflection. My own fireplace is gas vent free logs and it's currently kaput ! I have the maintenance/repair company coming on the 17th....but it may need an entirely new unit. And it's pricy -- but the fireplace through the years has brought me such joy that it's a must have at this point in my life.
I hosted a New Year's Eve party for my grandson's DS friends. They finally fell asleep at 2am --- I ordered Outback for them and made a lot of other snacks to eat. They had a blast and certainly enjoyed the good food.
I love hearing their laughter and delight with one another. I remember once I was that happy and joyful around my friends.
My grandson finally got a job in the dining hall of a prestigious retirement home. He will be taking the food plates to the residents. I'm overjoyed as it has taken more than 2 years for us to find him something.
The irony is the first day of his job they are calling for snow !! So goes life!
I hope you ate some black eye peas so you have good luck all year.
It's a good thing as well that you checked the oil in the Jeep -- it's a blessing that you can do those things yourself and not have to go to a garage. My daughter recently had an accident with a phone pole after swerving to miss a deer -- the initial contact with the insurance company indicates it is totaled. Then due to the holidays nothing has been done since. What a mess for her ---
I just noticed I've turned your blog into my own !!
Happy New Year -- keep 'em coming !!! Now my year can be complete reading your posts.
Blessing, LL
